Deadline | January 31, 2024, at 12:00 CET |
Date and place of the interview | February 7, 2024, at 09:30 CET in the Meeting Room of Cube 44/A of the Department of Environmental Engineering, University of Calabria, Italy. An online interview will be possible only if adequately motivated. |
Duration | 12 months (renewable for other 12 months) starting from March 1, 2024 |
Gross salary | € 25’000,00 (corresponding to ca. 1.5k€ net per month, additional benefits provided for board and lodging) |
Title of the research | Remote sensing techniques to address wildfire and drought risk |
Description | Activities will be carried out under Action No. 4 of PP1 of Goal 4 and Action No. 1 of PP5 of Goal 2 – SPOKE 1, under the project “Tech4You- Technologies for climate change adaptation and quality of life improvement,” and will focus on: (a) the definition of drought observation systems based on satellite images to be integrated with ground observation systems. Among possible drought indices based on remote sensing techniques, in particular vegetation indices (e.g., NDVI, EVI) will be used and may possibly be combined; (b) the measurement of the consequences of fires in a part of the Calabria region using satellite data analysis. In particular, high- resolution (20-30 meters) optical and infrared imagery data and possibly microwave active remote sensing data will be analyzed, contributing to the implementation of an automated algorithm that is as easy to use as possible even for personnel not specialized in remote sensing. |
Qualification required for applying | Master’s degree in Engineering or Geological Sciences |
