Title of the researchDevelopment of a seasonal water resource forecasting system for
Southern Italy
DescriptionThe activities will take place within the PRIN 2022 project “INnovative
FOrecast-informed REServoir operations for sustainable use of water
resources and climate change adaptation” (INFORES). Within the
project, a modeling chain for forecasting water availability on a
seasonal time scale (1 to 6 months ahead) will be implemented.
Specifically, a procedure for downscaling the rainfall and temperature
variables from an ensemble seasonal forecasting system with a lead
time of up to 6 months will be implemented. The high-resolution
variables will then be used as forcings of a hydrological model to be
applied on two water systems selected as project study areas (the
Neto-Tacina system and the Salso-Simeto system, respectively,
located in southern Italy). The candidate will also evaluate the impact
of the meteo-hydrological forecasts on water availability in the
systems analyzed.
Qualification required for
applying
Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (Class LM35 in the
Italian classification system), Master’s degree in Civil Engineering
(LM23), Master’s degree in Physics (LM 27), Master’s degree in
Computer Engineering (LM 32), Master’s degree in Computer Science
(LM 18), Master’s degree in Forestry (LM 73), Master’s degree in
Agricultural Sciences (LM 69) or equivalent
